About Sensei Kevin Veivers

Sensei Kevin Veivers (pictured, right) began his involvement with the martial arts in the late 1960s as a light footed junior boxer with the Gold Coast Amateur Boxing Club then based at the Showgrounds in Southport.

He trained under the watchful eye of his father where his skills with the gloves were sharpened during those early teenage years. Around that time a well-known Victorian golden gloves champion by the name of Frank Everitt began teaching karate on the Gold Coast. This was the beginning of Sensei Kevin's involvement with Kyokushinkaikan Karate, it was 1973.

Switching from gloves to bare knuckle, Sensei Kevin obtained his Shodan in 1979, Nidan in 1995, and Sandan in 2005.

Training karate under Frank Everitt then later on with both Shihan Tony Bowden and Shihan Cameron Quinn, the experience and knowledge was broadened with training in Kendo and Iaido.

Sensei Kevin is a State, National and International qualified judge.

Sensei Kevin opened this club in Mermaid Beach back in 1985 while still training weekly with Shihan Tony. His wife Sue has trained alongside Sensei in both Karate and Kendo as well as providing a rock of support to both Sensei and the club.

Kyokushin, through its sweat, vigours of training and comradeship have complemented and enriched all aspects of Sensei Kevin's life.
